Reasons for not getting the job

I have heard stories from multiple people that we are searching the job but we are not getting the job since last 6 months, 1 year or some duration. Trust me everyone is a deserving candidate to get the job. Only thing is one needs to approach the companies or placement agencies in the right manner, with right attitude and also with correct Resume.

Expectations

First of all, let me tell you that many people are not setting the expectations about the job properly. While setting the expectations about the job one should understand the office timings, location of the job, and many more things.

Office timings – One should be very clear that if the job is full time then the office timings will be fixed and could not be amended as per your suitable timings. In case of part time job, timings needs to be clearly discussed with the company and then the job needs to be accepted.

Salary – Many a times it happens that the salary expectations are not set right. Salary expectations needs to be set right. You should not underrate yourself but at the same time, one should not expect too much salary than the capacity of the company. Any company would have set the salary budget depending upon multiple criteria. But for a specific role, salary budget for A role might be different for a company from another company. When a company decides the salary of a particular candidate, that depends on the caliber of the candidate, skillsets of the candidates, previous experience if any. So basically any company chooses the candidate depending on these criteria and then the salary is proposed by the company and also the rejection and acceptance of the candidate. Salary expectations could include traveling cost involved, but definitely if one is need of job due to any reason, then he or she should accept the job even if the salary proposed by the company is 10%-20% lesser than the salary expectations by the candidate.

Job Role – Expectations about the job role or the kind of work to be done needs to be set properly. There are multiple job roles for a skill set. Every job role even with same designation name, might have different kind of work in different companies. So learning about the job role is important.

Location – For setting right expectation about the location of the company, you need to ask yourself few questions. Do you drive and which vehicle, or do you use public transportation? Depending on the location of the company and location of your home, do you think you are ready to relocate nearby company’s location. In case of bachelor candidate, it is easier for changing the location for your home, but in case of candidate with family it becomes difficult to change location. So depending upon the transport way you would be using and also on the distance of both locations you need to decide on the best locations to choose from.

Wrong search – Many candidates does not know how to search for a job. There are many portals where one could post the CV, and start searching for jobs. But there are multiple roles for which you could search for the job. E.g. An BCom candidate could search for the job for an accountant role but also could also apply as dispatch coordinator or purchase coordinator. So one need to find out all the roles for which one could apply as per the qualification or as per the skillsets. There are different job portals but some of them are specialized for IT Industry but some for non IT industry, some of the portals are for some specific salary range. So you need to do research based on the qualification and apply in the job portals. Also there are two ways once you register in the job portals. One way is keep accessing your job portal account so you could be searched by recruiters. Another way is to apply for the job posts.

Wrong Resume – Resume is the mirror of your qualification and it is representing yourself in the job market. Make sure that your Resume or CV is ATS Compliant. ATS is application tracking system. Some companies use ATS for storing all the applications received for them. So if the resume is not ATS Compliant then the resume is directly rejected. There are few must to have details in the CV. Also that should cover all the aspects of you required by the job market. If any jobseeker is not getting interview calls then assume that the CV needs to be updated correctly. CV should also include all required keywords which are required for the CV to be searched in the job portal. Also remember to add only those things which you are confident on. Some people add a laundry list of all the available skills in the world but it should be restricted to those skills for which one is confident about.

Approach and Attitude –

Even applying for the job, one need to check whether the approach and attitude is rightly set? Every job requires different approach and different attitude as per the job requirement. But every company will like to have a candidate with proper skills for the job but also will be there with the company for longer time. Every candidate should be able to have right attitude set for the job. E.g. if a candidate is applying for the sales job then the candidate should be optimistic as well as good in negotiation skills, talkative. For a accounting person, good control and knowledge of mathematics and as well honesty is most important qualities. Also every candidate should approach the company with the answer to one most important question, what additional benefits one could add to the company’s performance.

Interview

There are multiple things you need to take care at the time of job and multiple reasons you need to avoid at the time of interview. Many a times candidates forget the time of interview but this could be avoided by noting down all interview details like date time and venue and contact number. Candidate attend the interview totally unprepared or partially prepared. Which needs be avoided by preparing well. Skipping the interview is another mistake by which you are closing a door of opportunity. For any interview one should be properly dressed. It is preferable, if candidate attends the interview in business formals, properly combed hair, proper footwear. I know few candidates were rejected because of inappropriate attire. Reaching the venue in time is very important. There are chances of missing the interview by getting there late. It’s better to reach there in time than reaching late. One need to plan the travel before-hand. One important thing needs to be thought about is if the candidate is well prepared technically for the interview. For preparing for the interview, one should list down all the possible questions which are from the field and practice answering those in front of the mirror confidently. Confidence plays a huge role in the getting selected in the interview.
