Being a recruiter or in placement agency many a times we feel some candidates are looking for a job change or a new job but due to some reason those candidates are not ready for the job.
Let us see the cases of a candidate looking for a job change. The person is already settled in the current job and due to some reason he or she is looking for a new job. Actually speaking the urge of job change is totally and inevitably depends on the reason of job change. Let us go through the reason for job change.
Conflict with management
A person might be looking for job change due to bad management or bad manager. Somehow there are conflicts between the management and the candidate. The reasons could be due to performance expectations are not matching, or the way the candidate’s working is not acceptable by the company. But in short there are conflicts between candidate and management. So if the candidate is not happy, he/she will decide to leave the job. But in this case, exit interview in the company could change the scenario. So in case if the company offers the employee to change the team the employee will still stay with the company. So a candidate needs to decide whether he/she is really looking for a job change or a department change or team change would suffice the goal.
Salary increase
Salary change is most common reason for changing the job. Job change could be due to less or no increment in the job. Every company has yearly appraisal process. Some specific budget is allotted to each team. In case if any employee is not satisfied with the appraisal, then he decides to leave the current job. But even in this case it is possible that the candidate is not yet certain about leaving the job. In case if the company decides to give raise after resignation of the employee then the employee might decide to cancel the resignation. So in this case, the employee is ready to continue with the same company with salary raise. This case needs to be thought about before searching for the new job.
From a fresher’s point of view, salary is most important aspect. But should salary be most important thing for deciding the job. There are multiple other factors for deciding which job needs to be chosen. One must not decide about the salary depending on the monthly expenses of the fresher but that needs to be decided by the industry standards. But even the some range is decided for the salary, one should be a bit flexible for the same. Fresher should give 6 months of time spam from the date of graduation. In case if one do not get the job in that time spam, one should revise the salary expectations.
Location
Sometimes a candidate is ready for working in any job and he or she does not think about distance between office and home. While changing the job one should consider the work location properly. In case in the same city, actual traveling distance and traveling time should be thought of. In that case, the traveling time during rush hours should be considered as well. If the salary rise is more then, even the traveling time could be adjusted for. But the traveling expenses needs to be covered by the
salary rise. The interesting job role could overrule the location. But one should really finalize if the new location could be adjusted to.
Job Role
Have you given a thought about the job role you will be performing in the new job? What if it is totally different than the skills you have? Or if the job role have more responsibility. May be the job role need more of your time or may be the job role needs you to manage people. When you are thinking about changing the job do think about these kind of changes in the job role. In short while changing the job one need to consider the more responsibilities or more changes in the job role performed till date.
Sometimes it is possible that the candidate is not happy with the current job role. After working for too many days in a company, employee starts feeling that the job role is becoming monotonous, there are no challenges in the current job, also there are no possibilities of performance raise. In all such cases, instead of thinking about changing the job, changing the project, or changing the department or if possible changing the location in the company could be tried for.
Family
One needs to check if the family is ready for the same. Sometimes it happens that the decision maker is not the candidate and he is dependent on parent’s decision or someone else decision. Then in this case, the candidate should discuss about the job before going for interview, to check if the candidate is really looking for a new job or job change. Sometimes the family resists for the job, or location of the job, or the salary provided by the job. In this case, candidate backs out from interview or from joining the company. In this case, candidate needs to decide whether he or she is really looking for new job. So even if the family resists, candidate needs to decide if the job needs to be accepted or not.
New Training
For new job, new role, one needs to undergo through some training. The training may be provided by the company or may be the employee needs to train themselves, read about the new responsibility, read books, search and read from internet, learn new software, learn to handle new people, learn and understand new people. Any of the above or many more would be possible. So there are changes in the life of the new candidate after joining the new job. So one need to think if the candidate is ready for these kind of changes and training and challenges.
So one need to think about all these all aspects of their own life and finalize if he or she is really ready for the job change. Ohhh yes.. all these are aspects of one’s life.
